    Saamloop Vineyards

    The Vineyards

For Saamloop we blend three certified heritage vineyards in one bottle! These three vineyards are all north-facing bushvine vineyards.  Syrah, Colombar and Chenin Blanc, are blended together, one third of each. These vineyards from different soils, varying from loam, gravel and clay, all contribute to the final wine.  The wine is made in a ‘vin gris’ -style.

    Our Philosophy

The grapes will be picked at the right time to ensure optimum aromas for the Saamloop vin gris. The Colombar will provide guava flavours and fresh acidity, the Chenin will bring white pear and peach, the Syrah will contribute black berry aromas. The name ‘Saamloop’, meaning ‘walking together’, refers to this harmonious blend of flavours.

    Swaartekrag Vineyard

    SSV_Heritage_Swaartekrag2

    The Vineyard

Swaartekrag gets its name from an old certified heritage vineyard in the Swartland. These old bushvines planted in 1968, yield a very small annual crop of only 4 tons/ha. Berries are small with a huge concentration due to the dryland conditions of this vineyard.

    Our Philosophy

Fruit will be brought to our cellar at optimum ripeness. The vineyard gives a very concentrated wine, and will go into barrels for eight months. This wine is a richer, more powerful Chenin than the cool climate Kanniedood Chenin Blanc from our Pella range which comes from Stellenbosch.

    Voorloper Vineyard

    The Vineyard

The Voorloper heritage vineyard is one of the oldest Syrah vineyards in Stellenbosch.  This vineyard, clone SH99, is situated on a hill with gravel and pot clay soil. The bushvines yield a small annual crop of 5 tons/ha. It is a dryland vineyard that produces very small berries with a huge concentration of cherries and spice.

    Our Philosophy

The age of the vineyard provides a good balance for vegetative growth. If the balance is good in the vineyard, it makes the work in the cellar much easier. We will normally pick the fruit at a potential alcohol of 13,5 to make an elegant wine with loads of red berries and spice.
