“Super Single Vineyards focus on the production of handcrafted wines from specially selected single vineyards throughout the Western Cape and the newly allocated Sutherland-Karoo region. Our pursuit for the finest fruit is never at an end.” Daniel de Waal – Proprietor and Winemaker

Canettevallei Wine and Lavender Farm, dating back to 1682, is an old family farm that lies tucked away in the quiet valley of Stellenboschkloof on the “Ou Kaapse Hardepad”. Surrounded by natural beauty, it is here where the De Waal family find their inspiration from and live out their creativity to the full…The home of Pella and Mount Sutherland Wines.

Daniël’s love for the soil and nature is expressed in his wines and Ingrid creates produce from the farm such as traditional moskonfyt. A range of lavender products, including lavender essential oil and dry lavender, is also produced on the farm.

Their passion for good food and wine led them to the decision to make their own wine, wine that would reflect this passion. An old rickety outbuilding had to be renovated as this was to become a small boutique winery and tasting room. Meticulous care was taken to preserve its character and express the family’s roots and style.

For Daniël, 2002 Diner’s Club Winemaker of the Year, his wine must first and foremost satisfy his own taste. “We therefore make only small batches of wine, but only and always the finest.” To reach his objective of only the finest, Daniël is in continual search for the best vines and perfect terroir which Canettevallei would not necessarily provide. Daniël has discovered some super single vineyards, hidden throughout the full length of the Western Capes’ ‘vineyard belt’ . These vineyards provide the fruit for Pella Coastal Wines. He also established the first true cool continental vineyard of South Africa on the farm Kanolfontein in the Sutherland-Karoo region, the origin of Mount Sutherland wines.
